Background
Established in 1988, the African Economic Research Consortium is a premier capacity-building institution focused on research and training to inform economic policies in sub-Saharan Africa. AERC builds a cohort of well-informed economists through research, training, and policy outreach.
Overall Job Purpose
The IT Administrator is responsible for user support, installation, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software. This includes first-level support, systems administration, and implementing disaster recovery controls, ensuring effective IT service performance and security.
Duties and Responsibilities
Systems Administration
- Develop, deploy, and maintain business applications supporting critical processes.
- Install and configure IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and storage.
- Manage and administer both on-premise virtualized systems and cloud infrastructures.
IT Enabled Implementations
- Identify needs and propose solutions for new systems or changes to existing systems.
- Assist in developing enterprise data models and implementing business analytics tools.
Operations and Support
- Provide first-level support, investigating and troubleshooting help desk issues.
- Perform continuous monitoring of systems, ensuring integrity and availability of resources.
- Manage external service providers for contract negotiations and troubleshooting.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in IT project implementation; PRINCE2 or PMP certification preferred.
- System Administration/System Engineer certifications in Microsoft; ITIL foundation certification is a plus.
- Experience in administering Office 365, Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud infrastructure.
