Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technologist plays a key clinical role in supporting the delivery of comprehensive primary healthcare by providing accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services while ensuring an outstanding patient experience.
This engagement is on an as-needed (locum) basis. Successful candidates will be contacted when opportunities become available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, prepare, and process samples for a diverse range of laboratory tests in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and efficient testing.
- Participate in quality control procedures to maintain the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of laboratory results.
- Monitor laboratory stock levels, prepare monthly orders, and ensure proper storage of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Accurately record, interpret, and update laboratory test results in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
- Prepare comprehensive laboratory reports summarizing test findings and results.
- Maintain compliance with laboratory standards, safety procedures, and quality assurance guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.
- Promote a positive, professional, and patient-centered working environment.
Qualifications:
- Diploma, Higher Diploma, or Bachelor's Degree (BSc) in Medical Laboratory Science.
- Current registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a busy laboratory environment.
- Hands-on experience performing a broad range of laboratory tests, including hematology.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control, and diagnostic testing.
- Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and maintaining laboratory records.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Outstanding patient care and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
