Mission
The Governance, Membership & Federation Affairs area ensures that National Associations (NAs) operate within a strong, coherent, and values-based governance framework aligned with global standards. The area supports the evolution of member governance models, affiliation status management, statutory compliance, and effective oversight structures, while safeguarding the integrity, accountability, and sustainability of the federation.
It plays a critical role in supporting National Associations through governance transitions, affiliation processes, and capacity strengthening of boards and senior leadership, ensuring alignment with global governance principles, statutory requirements, and federation-wide policies.
To strengthen MA’s accountability and encourage self-reliance in the management of their operations with strong affiliation to the global SOS federation in line with their country’s legal frameworks.
This job revolves around 3 broad service areas, namely:
Governance Support & accountability
- The Member Governance & Affiliation Professional supports the governance evolution of National Associations by providing technical, advisory, and coordination support on affiliation management, statutes and by-laws reviews, governance structures, and tri-partite agreements.
- The role contributes to strengthening effective governance practices at national level by advising National Boards and senior leaders, supporting transitions toward independent member status, and ensuring ongoing alignment with global governance principles, federation standards, and accountability requirements.
Leadership and Management,
- Local leadership established and effective leadership of national operations with strong ownership, relevant national strategy, business continuity and risk management is in place.
Strategy, Planning and Budgeting
- Strategy, Planning and Budgeting development and reviews in consultation with stakeholders.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to a Member Association (MA) Governance Analysis through the execution of an advanced assessment, including board member training and development, and an analysis of the roles and responsibilities of the board and national management.
- Provide technical assistance for the development of an advanced Governance Plan for the MA, based on the results of the governance assessment, including the systematization and development of the governance plan and the semi-annual monitoring of its implementation.
- Support the development of board and management succession plans.
- Support the annual assessment of the board and management.
- Strengthen the Board’s affiliation with the Federation by enhancing communication between the Federation and the MA, regularly informing them about achievements, challenges, and key developments within the Federation.
- Facilitate training processes for board members on the mission, vision, and values of the Federation.
- Support the active involvement of the board in the formulation of the national strategy and annual plan through the strategic planning process.

As someone working for or on behalf of SOS Children’s Villages, you are responsible for helping to create and maintain a safe and protective environment for staff, as well as for the children, young people, and adult programme participants supported and cared for by SOS Children’s Villages. Requirements
- Requires a Master’s degree, preferably in management, social studies, or development-related fields such as project management, education, finance, social and philosophical studies, or economics.
- Position requires more than 10 years of work experience, including in depth experience in working with boards
- Knowledge of stakeholder management across diverse cultural contexts and a solid understanding of relevant functional areas.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-cultural stakeholder engagements with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated understanding of operational contexts.
- Proven ability to inspire teams.
- Willingness to travel 25 to 30%
